As Hurricane Sandy hits the East Coast, I'm compelled to share.
A lot of people are staying home from work today and hopefully
remaining safe throughout the storm. I wanted to share some tips may help you
make good use of your time while at home.
Often times people rush to the grocery stores to stock up on food. As if the only productive activity to be engage is eating. As we spend more time with our loved ones, the focus should not be on eating. Instead of purchasing comfort foods that pack on the calories as you ride out the storm, this is a great time to cleanse and purge.
With all this rain, there is much cleansing going on. Let's do the same and take this opportunity to detox the body. Instead of stocking up on foods that maintain a shelf life, take this time to do the following:
1 handful of a green leafy vegetable, (kale, spinach, dandelion greens,
etc)
3 carrots
1 knuckle of ginger
4 sprigs of parsley
1 cup of water, coconut water or almond, soy or rice
milk
4 ice cubes
Combine in a blender or Vitamixer and enjoy! Your kidneys and liver will thank you as they get a cleansing boost!
Move Your Booty!
Tying down the patio furniture to whether the storm cannot be the only
exercise that you get during the days of the storm. Take this time to re-invent,
spark or create a new fitness routine. This will help to eliminate boredom and
keep you away from that comfort food. Here are some ideas:
Purge and cleanse all around. Clean out your closets, organize your
home office, basement or an area that's been on your to do list for a while.
This will count as calorie burning in the house cleaning category.
These tips should help you get through the storm without
packing on the pounds. Make a conscious effort to be active and maintain good
habits. Remember, bikini season is close than you think.... ;-) Eat for the body
that you want if you're unhappy with the body that you've created.

- Clean out your fridge. Literally, cook up a few meals to
prepare for if the electricity or gas goes out. While cooking, clean out the
fridge. Take inventory of what you have and over the next few days, clean out
the fridge by eating what's in it. In the inclement weather, it's not wise to
run to the store to get a snack or any item that you may have forgotten. Make a
snack from what you already have in your possession. Get the family involved and
see who can be most creative in selecting the ingredients for the "mystery
snack". - Cook and juice your vegetables. If the electricity goes
out, you don't want too many perishables in the fridge. Experiment with the
vegetables you have and give your taste buds a new taste to enjoy and cleanse
the body. Here is a good starter recipe for your juicing efforts:
1 handful of a green leafy vegetable, (kale, spinach, dandelion greens,
etc)
3 carrots
1 knuckle of ginger
4 sprigs of parsley
1 cup of water, coconut water or almond, soy or rice
milk

- Pull out fitness DVDs - make it fun. Challenge friends
via social media to share what fitness DVDs they have completed during the
storm. The person who gets in the most minutes of exercise or has the most
variety of routines gets major bragging rights. - Turn on the fitness channel from your local cable TV stations - you
can find anywhere from 10 minute routines to 45 minute routines. Now may be the
time to try belly dancing, mat Pilates or a Brazilian booty routine. - Make your time at home fun and inventive. While you
watch TV, run the stairs in your home during the commercials. You can also use
your dumbbells, soup cans or gallon jugs of water as arm weights to perform
bicep curls and upper arm work during commercials and between shows. Turn being
a coach potato from an inactive sport to an active sport.
